I don't usually post contest pics or pics I do for other people, but this one was so much fun, I couldn't resist. The character is Raesha (copyright Raesha aka M. Doorenbos), a grey-skinned, ragged-winged, murderously vengeful elf. How cool is that? Heh. Quite.
Done for Raesha's contest. Thanks so much to her for allowing me to post her cool character here.
The usual. Drawn in Photoshop from start to finish. I used about a half dozen reference pics for the crossbow (and still couldn't get it quite right). Used myself for body reference, although I had to fudge a lot of it since I don't have that kind of physique (unfortunately).
Oh thanks. That was one of the things I wasn't sure about. All the pics I referenced were shorter between the trigger and the actual bow. But a shorter length didn't quite look right to me, so I took liberties and elongated it. Thanks for letting me know.
You're welcome. Yeah, the longer ones are extremely rare, just because it's so powerful a weapon that not many could shoot one that long without dislocating a shoulder or so. They can be custom ordered from those that make them though, my uncle has a long one like in your drawing and he's pretty strong but has loooong arms and so it works out. Yours is just fine. I don't think too many people know the specifics on a crossbow anyhow, since they're illegal in most places so you shouldn't get many people telling you that it's too long anyways.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
