A pic of the Shinsengumi, not from any particular series even though they're featured in many shows. I wanted to do something recognizable for Anime Expo, but I didn't want to worry about fanart and copyright issues so I stuck with actual historical figures. Although I'm sure the real shinsengumi guys looked nothing like this. Anyway, I might make this a print here at DA later on, but for now, I'm just going to have prints of this at the convention. It's kind of weird looking since it's a bit flattened and the background is a bit abstract, but still, I hope it does well at the con.
Done the usual way. Start to finish on Photoshop. Not sure how long this one took, but I'd guess around 15-20 hours. I debated with myself a while before deciding to throw the foreground out of focus. I have a sharp version of it, but I think the leaves look too busy and cluttered that way.
Aesthetically, it looks awesome. Details are great but the most stunning part has to be the use of color tones for lights and shadows for the clothes.

Thanks, Yrindale. I tried to keep from using too much black like you'd mentioned. Lightened up their faces a bit. Although I couldn't resist a bit of darkness in the guy in front. Dark clothing to match his dark expression. Heehee.
I'm glad you think it's better this way too. When I look at the sharp-leaf version, my eyes get tired.
Speaking of tired eyes. I'm off to bed. G'night! ^_^
