Oookay. This one took a helluva long time to finish. I did this one because I was in the mood to design some characters and costumes. Anyway, Lady Vellyn's the one in black holding the ruby pendant. And the rest of them are her personal guards. Weehee!
As usual everything in the pic was done completely in Photoshop from sketch to finish. I did use Rohen's Color Atlas of Anatomy for reference pics for the skull. Unfortunately, I have no pics of the book to link here, since I don't have a scanner and can't upload the pic. But they're basically just photos of some skulls. Nothing fancy. Otherwise, no reference photos used for anything else. Total time, close to 30 hrs. (Ugh.)
EDIT: As a couple of people pointed out, the gate looked too flat. I've tried to fix it up a bit. For those who devwatch, sorry if this adds an extra thumbnail in your messages, but it was really driving me nuts. Had to re-work it a bit. I hope this is better now. Thanks for pointing out the errors, people.
The result of 30 hours really shows when the textures are so wonderful like they are here. I just find it strange that the fence is so flat.
If you just keep practicing, perhaps you can cut your time down. (You obviously don't need to learn about drawing or Photoshop at this point!)

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
