Now that my message center has calmed down a bit, I want to convey my sincere gratitude to `
karemelancholia and `
cosmosue for the DD yesterday. Thank you so much, you two!
And many thanks to everyone who visited my gallery and left comments, faved something, or stuck me on their watch list. I normally do make an effort to thank people for favs and watching and such, but erm... in this case, I hope you can forgive me if I chicken out and run for the hills. I'm not used to so much traffic and so many messages. I'm very sorry, but I don't think I'll get to most of them.

Okay, onto other things.... I don't want to sound like a broken record, but my annual Rurouni Kenshin contest deadline is coming up soon. Friday, August 15th, 11:59 PM Pacific Standard Time. For those who've been planning to participate, I do hope you can finish your entries. I'm looking forward to seeing some lovely art from you! And for those who weren't aware of it, the contest site/info is here:

When in search of ideas for your art...
1. Are there any visually inspiring movie(s) that you watch?
2. Any particular songs that help?
3. Books or magazines? (Including comics and manga.)
4. Any foods/drinks that help?
5. When/where do you get most of your ideas?
Have fun with your friend though! And I'll look forward to seeing the artwork.
but LOTR and other 'epic' movies put me in the mood to draw something..epic! heh
2- Songs... anyhing that I'm really feeling. Like, if im really down ill listen to something rather depressing...or if i happen to be feeling spazzy and happy and goofy, ill listen to some upbeat stuff...and, when i find a song or a mood that 'works' i draw
3-books: as far as books go, if they have a lot of imagery and visual references, it gets me in the mood for fanart!
magazines: not so much, i dont read them often O.o
4- chocolate milk is a favorite of mine, but as far as actually helping the drawing process in any way, it doesnt really do much other than make me not thirsty, heh
5- i get most of my ideas from observing people and thinking of compositions whenever i can. My room is a place where i feel really relaxed and can allow me to draw a lot of different things at once. When out and about, i might find something really cool that i just *have* to draw, but i dont draw more than one or two pieces usually.
wow. i wrote a lot.
O.O
and ty for reading all that lol

Well generally, I try not to search for inspiration because then I'm afraid my piece will look more like a fanart than something original. Y'know, that'd I'd be TOO inspired so whatever inspired me would seep through my piece. If that makes sense. But generally:
1. Any fantasy or fantasy-esque, like not necessarily witches and dragons but something with a lot of imagination and creativity. Liiike: Labrynth, The Dark Crystal, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Disney's Beauty and the Beast (I"m a sucker for a romance, shut up!) Hell Boy 1/2, Pan's Labrynth
2. Songs really depend on my mood. When writing I usually tend to listen to scores or instrumentals otherwise I start singing the words to whatever song I'm listening to rather than write XD I like emotionally pieces. But what defines it as emotional is odd for me. It's just blam, if I feel soemthing then yea. Like Pirates of the Caribbean 2, the Kraken song, totally awesome.
3. Oddly enough I can't think of any. I read books/mangas more to escape than to seek inspiration. When I read I get COMPLETELY sucked in, to the point when I look up I expect to see whatever it is I was just reading.
4. Coffee. Always coffee. Soda if I've already had like, three cups of coffee. Anything that tastes sweet, I'm a munchier. But it doesn't really help me think or anything, it's just easier to eat a little snack or candy while painting than to knock back a whole plate of ziti or something.
5. When? When I'm NOT thinking about it. I can sit for HOURS brainstorming and come up with absolute shit, step away to play some videogames or make some food or use the bathroom even, and bit by bit it starts coming to me. Probably when I relax I'd say, 'cuz I don't stress it so my mind goes down different tangents. Where? On the toilet LOL, or in bed. When I lay back and just get comfy to go to sleep that's when it starts pouring in. And I'm like, "damn why didn't I think of that before?" Or more often, "dammit how am I going to remember this tomorrow?" I think I get some of my best ideas when I'm doing something positively mundane, 'cuz my mind really honestly wanders. Fatnasy is my reality, I'm there more than I'm here. Daydreaming is my constant stream of thought, so more often than not I'm going to come up with something.
