Feature: 6 Cool Artists

Journal Entry: Fri Jul 11, 2008, 11:04 PM
I've been wanting to feature some artists for a while, but I always put it off for one reason or another.  Now that I've finally spruced up my journal css a bit, I figure it's as good a time as any.  Especially considering a couple of my own pics were featured recently, and it felt so nice to have that happen.

Thought I'd share the love a bit and showcase some sci-fi/fantasy artists whose works I've really enjoyed.  These are all artists with 50k pageviews or less (in some cases, a lot less, unfortunately!).  So if you're bored and want some pretty arts to look at, please feel free to wander over to their galleries and take a look.  ^_^

Usage

My artwork is not stock imagery, so please don't treat it as such. ^_^

In a nutshell:
1. Don't alter/edit/mutilate my art.
2. Don't claim it as your own.

The following are fine as long as you don't alter my images. No need to contact me for permission:

  • Downloading my art for your personal viewing pleasure.

  • Using my artwork as your desktop image.

  • Printing out my art for your personal use (like putting it up on the wall of your room.)

  • Displaying my artwork UNALTERED as part of a picture gallery on your site. (It'd be nice if you gave credit.)

I would ask that you please do NOT do the following:

  • Other than re-sizing, please do NOT alter/edit my art. Do not crop it. Do not change the colors. Do not draw on top of it. Do not remove my signature. Do not add text over it.

  • Do NOT use my artwork as part of your website/blog/myspace background or layout design.

  • Do NOT use my artwork for banners, avatars, sigs, and tubes.

  • Do NOT claim my artwork as your own.

  • Do NOT take my art without permission and sell it for profit.

It was brutal to be honest, I did it with a friend and I think the contrast between us - while fun, was a bit limiting toward the general public understanding what we're all about. Plus they aren't natural art fans at a street fair and that's hard to play with after conventions where it's all very specialized - like comics, or anime.

That aside, I did make a good connection that can seriously pay off in the long run.

But print sales wise - it took me 2 days (13 hour days, omg) to achieve 1 day worth of sales that I'd have gotten at ECCC so there is a difference for sure. More big prints went this time too, so obviously sales were further apart to hit even that number. Lot of down time.

Hmm, yeah, I suppose sales would be rougher when the people walking by aren't specifically looking for artwrok. Was the weather okay? I crewed on a 1-day shoot this weekend, and the sun was just beating relentless down on us. Ugh!

Ooh, congrats on the connection. :)
