INDIVIDUAL ARTIST REPORTS

Each artist is listed below with how many people guessed their gender correctly and how many guessed incorrectly. The numbers in parentheses indicate how many people were sure of their guess. Some survey takers did not list how sure they were, so the numbers may not add up quite right. I've listed some survey taker comments for each artist.

(A) :iconro-chan: ro-chan
-- 13 right (1 very, 6 somewhat, 5 not sure)
-- 16 wrong (2 very, 2 somewhat, 7 not sure)
-- 1 no-vote
-- Comment: "Male. Not at all certain. It has this abstract, somewhat realism based feel to it, and most artists I know who do this kind of art are guys."
-- Comment: "The fact is, I've seen both males and females use such bright, bold colors and draw faces in such a solid way. The reason I choose female here is because I suspect image 2 may be a self portrait (watch me be totally wrong >_> "
-- Comment: "Female, not at all certain, based purely on the colours used."

(B) PlusCandy: [link]
-- 25 right (3 very, 14 somewhat, 3 not sure)
-- 5 wrong (0 very, 3 somewhat, 1 not sure)
-- Comment: "Female. Somewhat certain. Image two, the male character is very soft and cutesy with cute details to the outfit. It just doesn't strike me as an image a male would draw of another male."
-- Comment: "Male. Not certain. I think this one could be misleading too: I've seen many male anime fans who draw in this style when they're *young*, around 13~15 years of age. I don't think any guy older than this would draw this way, though."

(C) :icondanhowardart: kuroitora
-- 24 right (10 very, 8 somewhat, 1 not sure)
-- 5 wrong (1 very, 1 somewhat, 2 not sure)
-- 1 no-vote
-- Comment: "Female. Somewhat certain. It shows kick@$$ women, could be a guy who is turned on by action girls or a girl who likes to empower women in her art..."
-- Comment: "Male, somewhat certain, a lot of action which is stereotypically a male preoccupation."
-- Comment: "Male. Very certain. Sexy fighting girls? That's either a guy or a professional gaming artist."

(D) :iconstarke-haz: Starke-Haz
-- 26 right (8 very, 9 somewhat, 3 not sure)
-- 4 wrong (0 very, 2 somewhat, 2 not sure)
-- Comment: "The first image is a portrait of a lovely woman, but it's not especially provocative. She actually looks like a real human being, not overly stylized to fit the ideal (XP). Second image: huge eyes, lots of purple and ruffles... I rarely see guys draw like that! Third image: rather slender looking and attractive male character. Also, the outfit is a bit more... flamboyant(?) then I would expect a male to draw."
-- Comment: "Male. Somewhat certain. It looks like a girlgriend picture, a pretty anime girl... which a lot of guys like drawing, and a cool mysterious guy which guys tend to like drawing... the third picture doesn't show any features to make me think that the character is supposed to be hot... so I doubt a girl drew him...."

(E) :iconerickghint42: erickghint42
-- 18 right (1 very, 5 somewhat, 7 not sure)
-- 12 wrong (0 very, 2 somewhat, 9 not sure)
-- Comment: "I could go either way. Because I must choose, I'll say female only because image 3 is of an adorable little boy. (heehee, that expression is great XD)"
-- Comment: "First I thought this one was male but then I went female just because it’s more typical to see child photography of that nature from females, but now even as I’m typing this I’m thinking male again so this one really has me stumped. I’ll go 52/48 female, haha."
-- Comment: "Male. Somewhat certain. I don't know anything about photography; I just feel this one is male. XD"

(F) :iconfirstborn: Firstborn
-- 18 right (3 very, 11 somewhat, 1 not sure)
-- 12 wrong (1 very, 5 somewhat, 3 not sure)
-- Comment: "Male. Somewhat certain. The violent themes and imagery have a masculine theme to them."
-- Comment: "In the first two images, the males' figures are very slender and well muscled... more "elegant" and "beautiful" than "strong" - it fits with the sort of androgynous trend of drawing attractive males that female artists seem to be leaning toward."
-- Comment: "Female. Very Certain. The males in these drawings are all barely clothed, and seem to be in pain."

(G) :iconfongmingyun: fongmingyun
-- 26 right (8 very, 12 somewhat, 2 not sure)
-- 4 wrong (0 very, 1 somewhat, 1 not sure)
-- Comment: "Male. Somewhat certain. It has the detailed almost calculated feel that many guys I know put into their art."
-- Comment: "Female. Somewhat certain. The artist cared a lot about detail, seems female to me."
-- Comment: "This has been the hardest one to decide so far but I’m going to go with female, but obviously I’m not positive. The type of pose in the second piece was most indicative for me, plus the prettiness of that boy."

(H) :iconterra-storm: Terra-Storm
-- 28 right (13 very, 8 somewhat, 1 not sure)
-- 1 wrong (0 very, 0 somewhat, 0 not sure)
-- 1 no-vote
-- Comment: "Female. Very certain. Because it's cute, colorful and happy."
-- Comment: "The uber huge eyes and furry ears definately make me think this artist is female."
-- Comment: "Female. Mostly based on the bright sun picture and the catgirl."

(J) :icontt-tt: TT-TT
-- 23 right (8 very, 6 somewhat, 5 not sure)
-- 7 wrong (1 very, 3 somewhat, 1 not sure)
-- Comment: "Female. Not at all certain. The colors seem too soft for a guy?"
-- Comment: "Female. Very certain. This artist put all the popular KH boys in one image... yup, that's about it..."
-- Comment: "Male, 70/30, based on the stoic nature of the poses."

(K) :iconparanoid-duckkie: Paranoid-Duckkie / manic-goose / bypolarbear
-- 19 right (7 very, 5 somewhat, 3 not sure)
-- 11 wrong (1 very, 5 somewhat, 3 not sure)
-- Comment: "I am completely torn on this one b/c the first one makes me think male based on the sword and the shadowy back-image, the third makes me think female based on the romanticism of the pose, and the second could really be either. I’m tempted to be perverse and say male just because I’ve thought so many others were female. In the end, just because of that danged third pic, I’m going to have to go with female though…again."
-- Comment: "Male. Very certain. I see more landscapes done by guys than girls"
-- Comment: "Female. 100% certain. 'cause that's Paranoid-Duckkie! XD I'd recognize that RuroKen fanart anywhere!"

(L) :iconfatalist: fatalist
-- 5 right (0 very, 3 somewhat, 0 not sure)
-- 25 wrong (13 very, 6 somewhat, 1 not sure)
-- Comment: "Male. Very certain. A lot of sexy female characters with big boobs"
-- Comment: "Deadpool with two girls and a catfight? ...Girl, because the signs are pointing to guy way too hard. "
-- Comment: "Based on the first two I wanted to say male, just because of the type of clothing, poses, and large chests on the women, but the last one almost made me want to say female as often, in my opinion, when artists depict things to get a point across they make the subject the same gender as themselves and while that could be a long-haired boy it strikes me as a girl. For the sake of continuity in being stereotyping though I’ll go ahead and say male. ^_-"
-- Comment: "Female. Somewhat certain. First gut reaction was to say "male", but the shapes in teh shading make me say otherwise."

Hehe, interesting. I was actually kind of thrown by how many of them seemed female, I assumed there'd be more of a mix so I leaned towards male on a couple just because of that. I don't remember my answers on a couple of them but at least I got some right :)

It does also make me wonder what people would think my gender is based on my art, but I think I draw pretty girly for the most part so I wouldn't be too hard to guess.

hey, none of my comments got picked... oh well, it was still fun to see whet everyone else guessed. fatalist and erickghint were the only ones i got wrong. I was totally fooled by fatalist, but I still think the photography could be either gender. nice survey guys, good job putting all this together

Very cool. Thank you for this,t hat is what i expected more or less, and I knew that my landscape stuff makes people think I'm a guy. and romance reeks of girl. I was great seeing what everyone was and how everyone guessed, i was both surprised and not at the same time. Very fun survey.
